Job Description:
The position
The role provides the opportunity to gain expertise in key aspects of end to end Jet optimization from supply source to airport (including supply planning, negotiation, tendering, forecasting & owning key relationships with airport authorities), with exposure to T&S and the global Aviation organization. The Airport & Channel (AO/CO) Optimiser drives the maximization of the end to end value for Downstream by managing inland physical positions (manufacturing, exchanges, 3rd party deal and Shell aviation commitments). The role is highly commercial and operational, requiring excellent stakeholder manager skills (both internally and externally), strong focus on supply chain optimization a deep understand of market dynamics, the regulatory landscape and the economic impact of a decision, along with price risk optimization.
Shell Aviation is a dynamic business in the Downstream S&D portfolio that is responsible for both fuel and lubricants sales. Every 12 seconds we fuel an aircraft, either through our own into-plane operations or via joint-venture operations. Unlike other transportation fuels, the aviation fuel market was growing at an average rate of 2-3% per year globally pre-Covid and is has bounced back quickly. Shell Aviation's mission is to grow both our fuels and lubricants business to outpace market growth. End-to-end optimization together with Trading & Supply (T&S) is a cornerstone of Shell Aviation’s strategy through the ‘Integrated Jet’ model.
As we move forward in the energy transition. SAV will continue to play an important role in supporting our customers to decarbonize the aviation sector using Sustainable Aviation Fuels & Carbon Offsets in the short and mid-term, and hydrogen in the long-term. It is an exciting time to join the team as we support our customers to grow back stronger and greener in the post pandemic recovery.
Purpose
• Actively manage & grow the P&L of a portfolio of airports within Turkey, increasing end to end profitability through optimizing purchase options, customer mix, supply chain and operating costs in local airports in close collaboration with T&S.
• Set margin aspirations and rock bottom prices, and own the short term customer pipeline
Principal Accountabilities
• Primary accountability for
o 55 Mag / 210 kcbm Volume per year (DELCO)
o 5 Airports with growth potential + Bulk contracts within scope
o 3 $ mln C5 (DELCO)
o Demand forecast accuracy of 92%
o HSSE
• Shared scorecard accountability for:
o Credit & CSI performance
o Operational performance and Cost at airport
o Integrated Jet Global EU results
• Accountable for the location strategy for Turkey, working in close co-operation with the T&S Jet team to maximise the E2E profitability for the group. Develop the “location CVP” and support sales in identifying appropriate value-add offers for customers that can be appropriately monetized
• Accountable for new business opportunities enabling growth within the boundaries of the relevant trade controls, applicable regulatory requirements, and opportunity realization standards.
• Define margin aspirations for each airport and enable delivery of these through sales/T&S/operations
• Lead and develop relations with external stakeholders, including airport authorities and service providers to enable business growth.
• Manage pricing risk across the inland Jet portfolio
• Engage in 3rd party negotiations and hydrocarbon dealmaking for inland markets, optimizing Shell’s position as well as identifying opportunities to maximize income for the group. This will also include leading/supporting in negotiations for the spot and term use of logistics including railcars, Road transportation, pipelines, barges and storage facilities.
• Optimize the use of Shell’s assets, including JVs, to ensure the maximum return and efficiency for the capital employed.
• Provide products input for refinery optimization i.e. volume and price tranches for products and components
• Work with Sales globally to identify opportunities to upgrade the customer portfolio, including using the Sales/Tender pipeline tools to define target customers.
• Regular engagement with the Account Managers and Airport authorities will be required to ensure that the teams are fully aligned on strategy.
• Work closely with operations teams to ensure a feasible and robust supply chain, actively managing forward logistics as well as ensuring adequate stock levels in all managed terminals
• Interface with Account Managers and T&S from other regions regarding potential tenders for supply at airports within portfolio
Special Challenges
• Manage multiple interfaces and balance different commercial perspectives. Interfaces include: Sales, Operations, T&S, Finance, Airport Authorities and potential partners.
• Own engagement activities with key external stakeholders especially; refinery suppliers and third party suppliers, airport authorities, other third party suppliers such as into-plane service providers
Additional Comments
• Moderate international travel requirements to team meetings and to the T&S organization
• Reports to the Airport Optimizer Manager Europe
Experience & Qualifications
• Highly driven and resilient individual with a ‘can do’ attitude
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to understand and work within the boundaries of the appropriate regulatory landscape
• Solid understanding of profit and loss (P&L) including balance sheet and working capital impacts
• Strong engagement and collaboration skills with experience in delivering through others
• Experience of supply, trading, refinery or Aviation Business would be an advantage
• Experience in managing external and internal stakeholders
