Job Description:
Purpose
Biofuels Optimiser (BO) plays the most central role within TSP being responsible for the short/long term planning and optimisation of his/her products’ supply chains as well as the steering of day-to-day execution.
In full compliance to Shell HSSE standards and Turkish legislation (including d2d CSO requirements), BO ensures feasibility of fuels supply while ensuring minimum operational cost, maximized efficiency. He/she is also responsible for working capital and price exposure management in his/her supply chains.
While steering schedulers to ensure accuracy and timeliness of supply in accordance with his/her plans BO aims to extract maximum value from the chain using contractual volume/pricing optionality’s, market environment, and available supply flexibilities within the chain.
Sitting in the middle btw refiners, traders, operations and marketing Cob’s, BOs are responsible for assessing the best available supply options in different channels and they allocate available volumes into these in coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
That requires a continuous collaboration/communication with HCDM, Schedulers, TSO and Marketing Cob’s as well with external contract partners where bottom-line focus is essential to ensure E2E value is captured.
Biofuel’s optimiser is also responsible for dealmaking & contract management activities for Biofuel’s products where a strong external exposure through negotiations is part of the job.
Accountabilities
Bio Optimiser is accountable for optimizing the LCF book in Türkiye
Responsible for the supply chain P&L and exposure as well as short term supply plan to the depot locations, to optimize the end-to-end view including the marketing and trade channel values
Responsible for ensuring overall mandate compliance, against renewables mandates.
Responsible for optimizing across existing and new compliance mechanism, including, but not limited to, Ethanol, bio-Naphtha, FAME, HVO, electricity, and credit positions
Responsible for establishing renewable and carbon credit acquisition strategies and Identifying opportunities for economic blending of renewables in the supply chain and business development needs like a bio ticket & Bio ticket platform & digital transition e.g.
Responsible for managing the Sales interface for his/her Product and acts as the single market interface to B2B Pricing, Sales, and Marketing.
Collect, clean, and analyze data from various data sources and build a quantitative representation of Biofuel commodities supply and demand.
Have a clear understanding of various micro/macro-economic factors that affects Biofuel supply and demand balances/prices.
Have a clear understanding of various drivers in the biofuels markets such as Agriculture yields, Currency movements, geopolitical situations, mother nature and transportation and storage economics.
Ability to think critically and analytically by being able to question and digest information from various sources and apply this to your analysis.
Have a clear understanding of Feedstocks, SAF, HVO e.g., By-products and biofuels used by European & Türkiye obligated parties
Good understanding of Various Turkish & European Transport Biofuels regulations
Interest in transportation and logistical side of Biofuel trading such as Biofuel tank storage inventory
Basic understanding of Türkiye & European Biofuel production and ability track variables such as Biofuel production capacity, margins, and utilization rates.
Act as the Trading & Supply focal point for all biofuels related projects located in Türkiye,
Responsible for generating and providing pricing and volume steers towards marketing and inland deal makers. To provide real time alternative market steers for available products to sales.
The BO acts as the book / Product lead and SME for logistics and marketing related projects. The BO is responsible for generating new ideas/concepts or requirements around their supply chains or tools & processes. Such case the BO will scope out what is required, secure the necessary resources to support and run with the business opportunity ensuring its delivery either directly or via one of the business partners like HCDM, Marketing or Distribution.
Responsible for defining the product transfer pricings/tariff schedules to marketing businesses and provides info and support to business/marketing partners on pricing decisions.
The BO will be responsible to provide input for contracting, strategic or portfolio actions relating to his/her supply chains on behalf of the book.
Skills/Experiences/Qualities we are looking for
You need to have a proven track record and experience in compliance, process design and controls, people management, familiarity with physical trading business and project management. Specifically:
Exceptional knowledge of biofuels markets particularly low CI and drop-in biofuels
Understanding of product quality constraints within production assets and logistic options for the different biofuel grades like Fame, HVO, SAF…
Strong background in commercial contract negotiations
Strong commercial acumen and delivery focus with deep interest in the trading business and biofuels
Highly motivated with self-starter mentality, strong team player
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Good understanding of supply operations (depot supply chains) is desirable.
The incumbent will need good stakeholder management skills and commercial acumen to drive enterprise first decision-making process across the supply chain

Bio Optimiser is responsible to make fuel products in the portfolio available throughout the country while optimising cost and working capital; and increasing competitiveness and optionality of Shell’s supply chain with a focus on exposure management.
• Biofuels: 50 kT/year ethanol & Fame supply from current supplier in Türkiye

Special Challenges
Biofuels are forming a new ground of competition/operations for STAS where, being restricted by complicated mandate/incentive schemes, we are aiming to diversify our contractual options and supply flexibilities in an increasingly difficult financial environment.
Bio environment is often dynamic and fast moving. Biofuel’s optimisers often have to be able to respond quickly and accurately to challenging and sometimes conflicting deadlines in order to ensure compliant, competitive supply into available channels.
The ability to prioritise from several potentially conflicting tasks & initiatives whilst keeping a cool head is essential to success in dealing with internal and external customers. We are looking for those willing to work to deadlines in a lively, fast-moving, frequently changing environment where numeracy, attention to detail, proven team working, and communication skills are important.
Biofuels Optimisation has a strong operational dimension that requires incumbent to be contactable outside office hours to oversee important activities or resolve unplanned operation issues. In case of unplanned activities work pressure can be significant
